Safety walk:*3M Safety Walk Anti Slip Tapes
![]()
Hi All,
With the wet weather and having two kids clamber via the rear step > rear bumper into their seats (6th/7th seats)... is there a product of some sort that anyone could recommend that could be sprayed or glued onto the surface of the rear step and rear bar that would make those areas not so slippery?
It's all the original plastic (ABS plastic??) so not sure if anyone has done anything to make that stuff not so slippery when it's wet?
Also, how long does the stuff last for? I'd be wanting something hard wearing as they are getting in and out at-least twice a day.
Appreciate the suggestions :-D
Thanks,
Lp

I use the 3M tape on outdoor terra cotta stairs to the upstairs of my house and the adhesive is very good. Has resisted weather and stayed in place for 2 years. Very hard wearing non slip surface although it would not be very kind to a young persons knees etc.
haven't tried to stick it to a surface like the plastic on the rear step but expect it would be as good as the stairs.
Also Clark rubber has a range of rubber tread pattern non slip surfaces for floors, a small piece might be cut to shape and glued to the step?
cheers
By its nature a non slip service (that would be SURFACE) will not be child friendly-- think strips of sandpaper.
what about bits of carpet tiles glued on?
might look a bit silly but its non slip and kid friendly.

Or even better a friendly local motor trimmer might have a big enough piece of offcut car carpet that would do the trick!
just a thought
hey pedro, do you know where can I get a non slip service here in sydney?
Go to a truck supply joint, they sell stick on stuff that you peel the back off and stick on a surface.
It is black and doesn't cost that much, comes in a roll about 6 inches wide that they will cut some off for you. You will see it on truck fuel tanks, good stuff you won't slip on it!

Hello from Brisbane.
I used the 3M stuff on my back steps at home While it does the job, it was expensive and curls at the edges with time - probably due to the heating and cooling expansion since it was put on new paint.
The marine places sell an American brand of self adhesive backed non slip matting with small dimples for grip. It comes in black, white, grey and blue. I have it on the wheel arches of a boat trailer and, despite the frequent emergence in salt or fresh water, it is as good as the day I put it on. Looks good and would be my suggested way to go.
Cheers,
a few years ago i worked in a paint shop and we had glass beads we sold to mix in the paint then apply to make it no slip.
sort of like sand in paint onlt not sharp so does not hurt or cut through the paint.
we sold these for stair and boats mainly.
after applying them a couple coats over top with no beads is the way to go.
Thanks everyone for the replies, some great suggestions. I think I will go the route of the marine shops & see what I can source...
Cheers,
Lp
