Viscous fan tool

You can use a large adjustable spanner for the nut but you need something to stop the waterpump from spinning like the tool in the previous post. I would try to fit without removing the fan as its possible

Mate, I replaced my exhst. manifold, which requires the removal of the fan ,[ to take the belt off, to remove the aircon motor] approached an independant LR mob, quoted me $44 for the 36 mm spanner, went to an old toolbox , found a spanner close to the size, put it on the grinder, ground it to fit. Then put a ringspanner on the nut of the flange thingy the fan attached to, gave it a gentle:angel: tap, fan came off . could have been lucky, but the room you have to work without the fan is enough of a reason to do it, it is easily done. Talking V8 or TD5? Td5 you need the 36 mm spanner to remove the fan to change the drive belt. If you can't change the drive belt, don't leave the city.Bob

Sorry. Thought it was a Disco with a 300.

Be VERY careful when removing the trans cooler hoses. The alloy pipes into the cooler are 'delicate' as the chap at LR Spares pointed out when I had to get a 2nd hand cooler :(

For a TD5, yes, it better to remove the fan. 36 m/m, repeat, 36m/m OE spanner and belt it with a hammer. For a TD5 it is not, repeat not, a left hand thread.
