I bought a replacement radiator and planning to install it this long weekend. I read on rave that needs to remove the vicous fan first and require special tools to do it.
Do i really need to remove the fan to install the new radiator? Do i really need these special tools? Where can i get these tools except from uk? The shipping is more than the tools price.
Make your own.
Bit of scrap with a big cyclone washer welded to it. Bend handle to about 25mm offset parallel. cut out washer to size of fan nut. I think someone said its 32mm.
Dont forget its a left hand thread.

Reason: forgot photo
I use a bicycle headset spanner, so if you know someone who's into their bikes, and has been for a while as it's and outdated standard now, then they may have something that fits.
As Roger said, no need. I have replaced mine with the fan in place. It helps to have another pair of hands while replacing the radiator.
Two tips:
To disconnect the oil and trans cooler hoses you press back on the black plastic ring while pushing the hose towards the cooler pipe. Once released you then pull back on the hose and it "should" just release off the end of the pipe. May need several attempts to get them released... On reinstall, screw the coolers to the radiator before inserting the new radiator back in.
You need to remove the plastic strip under each head light in order to remove the front grill. The screws can be got at from up under the front bumper in the wheel arch. (I discovered this after I removed the entire front bumper...)
And the horns need to be unbolted and the foam padding pulled forward at the top, to gain access to the radiator support bolts.
Buy the cheapest indianese 36mm spanner from a dodgy tool shop, it will work fine.
I made this tool to hold the fan pulley out of some 100mm x 5mm plate steel for td5. A V8 may be different?
Hopefully attaching this photo works!
