I'm sure this is cause of 4 amigos...but what is it??

    G'day all,

A few weeks ago I spent most of a day out like this..............

    and this

Which caused the 4 amigo's. Long story short having finally cleaned Smokey I found this ( passenger rear door........I checked the other side and same "wire" but it was all in one...not split like this one)

So what is it and what can be done ie can I fix or off to my LR mechanic. Thanks in advance folks,

    Regards

    Stevo

You can see the other wires in the bkgnd

These are the ABS sensor wires that have been damaged - hence amigoes. In the picture you can see the other ends still attached to the abs. You will need to put some heat shrink on each of the wires to cover the solder joints, then solder them to wires from the sensor to get continuity, then shrink the heat shrink for insulation and remove (real) fault lights!!

Thanks for that but I am pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like solder or what heat shrink even means . I'm guessing I will have to take Yorkies advice and see my mechanic. As it is just the wire any idea if that is exxy or not? Or maybe even the mechanic my do what has been suggested in this post? Thanks for the advice/ feedback folks ,

    Regards

goto an auto eleccy rather than a mechanic... should take about 20 minutes to sort it once hes thrown the MK I's at it. oh and thats the wires to the ABS sensor, which is the bit that "reads" the tone ring in the brakes and translates it into a series of pulses so that the cars computer can work out a, the wheel speed and B the vehicle speed. (you may find that your speedo reading is a little flakey with it missing)

Thanks for that ( and explaining what a MK1 was ). So would you average auto eleccy have on hand an ABS Sensor for Smokey? Thanks,

    Stevo,
I've had the exact same problem.
Get your auto sparkie to join the cables using a crimp type joiner (the wires do not take solder, even with Baker's flux), then seal with epoxy lined heatshrink.
This should take about ten minutes.

nope but then neither would most mechanics.

an auto leccy should have on hand what was needed to correctly solder the wires together. MK I's is military slang for your eyes, as in; device observational MK I, eyeball

The abs hasn't got anything to do with the speedo in most cars; can't see relationship bwung there in lr either. The sensor is just a square wave creator to tell the abs computer what speed each wheel is doing, isn't it?

have a look on the rear output housing of your D2, see if you can spot a speedo drive there for me
