    Headlight Globes

Maybe related to my previous thread, I have never been happy with the headlight brightness of my 01 Discovery 2 (although could be my eyesight!)
What does the forum think about replacement with Phillips "Power2night + 50%" or "X-treme Vision + 100%" globes. Both available as H4.
Once again, please don't think I am lazy, I just couldn't find a specific thread.

Either would be an improvement over your original, aged(?) globes.... so would cleaning the front of your headlamps.
A film of dust and road grime can easily halve the output.... but the eye/brain does'nt recognize it as "Half", merely as a little bit dimmer.

The reverse applies when you install +50% globes. Brighter?- Yes, but not so much that you'd throw a party. Worthwhile? - well, I lashed out on them for my Classic (no relays) and they look a bit brighter than ordinary ones.

Got the same globes in my Paj, which look brighter still, though not by 'that' much. Possibly due to differant headlamp lens, brand etc.

Does your car have a relay(s) between the Hi/Lo beam switch and the lights? If not, then I'd start with that.

Either buy the setup from Traxide or roll your own.
Then clean your lenses, ( inside too, if you're game)
Try it out then buy your choice of Plus whatever %.

    HID

I was I the same boat and tried going a brighter light but still wasnt to my liking. Since I have converted to 55watt 6000k (bright white light). They are awesome. But before anyone attacks me about putting HID into a head light that isn't a projector; I have angled my right light as far to the left as possible. I have been flashed twice but one time was coming over a hill and with a 2" lift and him driving a commodore my headlights were gonna be in his eyes no matter what. There are kits in eBay for less than 100, be sure to get bi xenon as the other has a halogen for high beams and that means your low beams are brighter than your highs. Its all pretty much universal, my lights (as with most I think) are H4 so buy that kit if you want. My spotties are H9 which weren't advertised but just ask and they should have them for the same price.

+50% or (+100%) are the go!!!

Keep with the legal route of +50% (or +100%) head lights. I've done this with all of my Jap cars, except for the new Jazz, as the lights in the older Jap cars are not that good. If you are ok with driving around in an unroadworthy, yes unroadworthy car, then HIDs. HIDs are illegal for a good reason, if the lenses isn't designed for it, it throws light in directions that may (will?) inconvenience to blind other drivers, including oncoming traffic. So you can see ok, but others can't... that's why they are only for off road use in cars not designed for them.

If the lenses are polycarbonate, to clean them, try Meguir's Plastix. All plastics, including polycarbs degradate with UV light - this stuff cleans up poly with some application. If not, get a lens restoration kit (basically 2000 to 4000 grade wet and dry and use this to strip off the degradated poly.

A loom upgrade may also assist - have a look on the verandah for some suppliers.

The EGR removal is also illegal and makes a car unroadworthy yet there are more than a few of us that have removed it for a variety of reasons.

Check out dealextreme.com I bought two pairs of Genuine Philips Diamond Vision globes (5000k) for about $16.50 each instead of the $70odd from Autobarn etc. Took about a week to get delivered if you're not in a rush.
Takes a little bit of searching to find the globes as there are thousands of products on that site.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

    Rob

I use either Kitten No. 2 or good old Repo, followed by a good rub with Brasso. Brings scaly brown polycarbonate lenses back good as new. If really badly deteriorated, cut the grot off with 1000 wet and dry and then as above.

One tiny difference - removing the EGR doesn't directly impact on other drivers vision and safety. I'd hope forum members were intelligent enough to be able to distinguish between a mod that doesn't increase emissions above legal level and fitting globes that could potentially cause a fatal accident.
