starter motor no-go, unusual solution
Posted this in the technical chatter, thought it might interest some people here, will try to be brief : went to start TD5, just click, click, then start, would start every 3 or 4 goes. Got the son to turn the key, saw a flash of electricity in the area of the starter motor [ short to earth] found the small wire which fits the clip on the solenoid was not properly insulated at the female clip, cleaned @ insulated same, pulled the relays for the ignition system, found oil under the relays, just enough to short between the relay prongs, [ dirty engine oil, it seemed] cleaned the entire engine bay fuse box, also cleaned the red plug for the ECU [small amount of oil], TD5 starts first go, @ may be my imagination , but seems to drive better as well. The LR is the only vehicle I know to have an oil leak in the fuse box!
Gotta luv 'em Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
