Easiest place to tap accessory power.

I'm looking at putting in an 8 berth fuse block up front to make adding accessories easier and neaten up the birds nest developing quickly I'm probably going to put in on the pax side, maybe in the rear corner.

I intend to run a 160a cable to it as the fuse block is 150 amp rated with 50a max per circuit (probably a bit of overkill but may as well). The type of things I want to power are air compressor, UHF, iPad charger, iPhone charger etc. roof rack spotlights power and I want them off the accessory key... ie key out/off no power.

As such, I intend to put in a 150a relay off the main battery. Where is the easiest place to tap the live accessory power to get the relay to close?

the easiest thing to do is run it off of one of drivesafes traxride units and then your 3/4 of the way to a full blown DBS... Id just grab a VSR from a series I disco and use that to drive the relay, that way it'll only come on while the engine is running and the battery voltage is up high enough.

check out Mundy's post on a similar subject (currently page 3 I think) it has a list of which fuses are switched to acc or ignition or not at all. Hope this helps.

I would like to have the option to be able to power up the new fusebox with the ignition off as well.
Perhaps you could install a changeover switch to allow either power when ignition on only, or permanently powered. This could be handy when using work lights etc.
    Just thinking out loud here.

Great idea - but I'm also installing a rear battery so anything I need with the ignition off will be powered off it. Saves me forgetting and compromising the main battery!

I am thinking about the exact same thing but I have a problem of where to put the battery.

I like my seven seats too much to remove one, so I may not bother.

This also the reason I haven't installed gas.

I wonder if I could squeeze an Optima yellowtop behind the quarterpanel?

The easiest place to get an ignition-switched live in the engine bay, is the under-bonnet fuse box.

In the Under-Bonnet Fuse Box, you have two options -

    C0572-1

    and C0574-6

Both of these wires are White/Green (White with a Green Trace)

They're both fed by the "Auxiliary Circuits" Relay (they're feeds to the Under-Dash Fuse Box) and are only live when the ignition is on.

Yes but you will need to cut a hole into the liner , but that helps mount a plate/tray to bolt it to the floor with anyway.
