    Tyres on Disco 2

I know this will sound very stupid to most of you, but just humour me.

I have the Disco 2 V8, currently running Goodyear Silent Armour 245/75/16

They'll need changing in a couple of months, question is: can I go wider?

    Thanks for any help.

I have a D2a V8 on standard suspension running 265/70/16's. Besides being wider they're also a bit bigger in diameter. I'd suggest anything bigger would require a lift. Other members may suggest 265/75/16 are okay, but mine scrubbed the plastic wheel arch on full lock - before they broke off. I trust this helps.

    Regards,

    Peter

How did you like the Silent Armours and how far did you get with them?
I find them very good on and off road. Very quiet, but not great in mud.
Personally, I don't think I would want to go any wider (or taller). What are the benefits anyway?

You can go to a 265 width tyre but it will scrub a little on full lock. Easily fixed by either adjusting your steering stops or just not turning to full lock.

As said you wouldn't be able to go a higher profile than 265/70 without a lift or you will scrub guards, particularly if you drive off road.

Thanks guys for all the replies, the tyre sizes you're all referring to i.e. 255 & 265/70/16...... could they go on the standard 16" rims that I currently have 245/75/16?

I'm not that clued up on the width of rims i.e. 7 & 8 that they always mention.

    Cheers

Which rim width do you have? I expect it will be 7". It's marked on the rim, something like this 7" rim Disco steel rim - the 33 is the offset, the 16 is the diameter and the 7 is the width

    ]

or this 8" RR rim where 57 is the offset in mm, 16 is the width and 8 is the width

Only the very last D2s had 8" wide rims. A search shows you have a 2002 MY car so it would have only had 7" rims from new. 255s will be better on 8" rims (not saying that they won't fit on 7" rims but 8s are better).

The 8" D2 rims are a bit thin on the ground but the P38a HSE had the same size (different style) as standard & are a direct fit onto the D2.

Mate go for 235/85 on the standard 7 inch rim. Skinnies rock . Can be found anywhere, even in outback retailers, requires no mods at all to fit, wont scrub on anything - even off road, are 32inch so give good clearance and best of all they look tops . Wide tyres - bahh humbug.
