...and be prepared to spend many thousands on it in the next few years at and after the 200,000km "there goes my savings" mark.
Be prepared also for some great on and off road travels.
It's all about balance. This site will save you heaps if you are handy with a spanner.
Td5

In all honesty this is the minimum to get these things to standard, then to get them to perform it continues, but!
After it's done you end up with a fantastic vehicle![]()
D'Oh.
I bought my 2000 d2 in 2005.
I have,
Cheked oil pump bolt-tight but no locktite!
Replaced injector harness at 70k km, no oil there again yet.
Fitted cable CDL selector - keep it simple, no elec/ air actuator.
Replaced fuel press reg, and the leak screwed the starter so that too,
(don't let FPR leaks linger!).
Water pump replaced four yrs ago and is leaking.
Major servicing at 100,000km and one trip inspection at Coopers in Syd resulted in new radiator, front prop shaft, new viscous fan, replacement of ailing hoses etc to keep car right up to speed and reliable.
I highly recommend Coopers, not cheap but they do it right first time and really know their stuff re LR issues. so they are cost effective cause you don't need to go back to have it redone properly!
Have done one long trip thru centre via Boulia Alice towing camper and tranny coolr hose burst a swage fitting west of Alice!!! (not uncommon!).
If you have an interest/hobby/passion for working on cars and are spanner handy these jobs are not an issue and pleasing to complete.
The car is driving great, kills when playing in the rough, great fuel economy, and is inexpensive overall for what you get. I keep toying with going to 09D3 but the D2 still such an enjoyable Drive I cannot really justify the bucks.
It will frustrate you with LR issues but this forum makes them easy to deal with.
Preventative maintenance will stop your D2 letting you down!
if all that is not your caper then I guess it's Tojoville!![]()
