    240-250K Service Schedule Items

My D2 is closing in on 230,000km fairly rapidly and I was doing some advance planning for preventative maintenance due in the next 12 months or so.

In doing so I've noticed a couple of maintenance items hidden away on the back of the factory service schedule, but no obvious mention on the forums.

At 120K/240K km Land Rover mandate replacement of all hoses and seals in the braking system. This is a reasonably large job and means service kits for brake master cylinder and calipers, and all jump hoses including the 2 between the abs modulator and the chassis mounted rear brake pipes.
You could probably add in a Falconworks ABS modulator seal kit as they recommend replacement every 100,000km.

At 250K km the PAS/ACE reservoir should be replaced. I can only imagine long term exposure to hot fluid and under bonnet temps weakens the plastic used for the reservoir.

I wonder how many vehicles actually have the brake system done at 120K?

    cheers

    Not at the 120k service

Sounds like a preventative maintenance list; most owners seem to be working on the inspection list approach with some of these items.

I bought my TD5 with 118k on the clock from Austral. They definitely didn't do the items that you discuss at the 120k service, which was performed before I received the car. Cost would have been a big consideration for them and for most owners.

Makes some sense at 240k to replace the PAS / ACE etc as well as the plastic tank on the radiator, radiator hoses etc. If the brake fluid has been changed on a regular basis, seals should still be ok. Checking the brake hoses is relatively easy, a visual inspection for cracks on the outside, move the hose around and check for hardening. Hoses are relatively cheap; I've had one made up for another car that was hard to get parts for, for only $25.

Can you share the list, or is it on RAVE??

It's not on the standard RAVE cd, as the maintenance sheet was revised to an "All MY" version in 2006. The RAVE CD was last updated in 2002, prior to the content being moved to subscription access on GTR and then http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com

The brake hoses etc are under the heading "It is recommended that..." on the second page.

Visual inspection of the brake hoses is supposed to be done at every service, so the replacement recommendation is above and beyond inspection for external damage.

    cheers

I know we all love, well mostly love our D2"s, hey I own two, but surely if item aint broke yet. Honestly they are old cars now. I think your better tucking the money away, because as said there is a lot to replace. Fix as required...

That will make a lovely epitaph.

The most commonly quoted figure for brake hose life is about 6 years. LR's recommendation seems to be in line with that.

Add: Just came across this article:

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...ter-crash.html

While the vehicle in question is P38a bear in mind that the braking system is still wabco type-d (slabs is a variant) and same callipers etc.
