D2,TD5 Degenerate Flex hose to Air Box

Have searched AULRO and googled the web with no luck. Would appreciate ideas on this one. The material on the little connector hose from the inner guard to the air filter box is breaking down exposing the plastic ribs and letting air in. Would obviously be an issues with deep water too. Looking on the www at the parts places it would seem that you get one with a complete air cleaner assembly but can not see this connector sold separately on any site I have looked at.

Guess that my one is not the first to fail. Could probably pull it out and wrap it up in tape but wondering if anyone has done a more elegant repair?

    self annealing tape

Try using self annealing tape. It seals itself when wrapped against another piece of tape. From m
    arine stores;jaycar also seals it.

Thanks, will have a look but add in shipping and 20 quid quickly triples for a little connector hose. I do need a few other goodies like engine mounts and such so may be able to have a bulk shipment to make it worthwhile. Another issue is that my one (1999) has perished the covering material so would want no earlier than an 04 year if it is from a wreck or it will be perished by the time it arrives here from the UK !

Flex hose to air box repair

Hi guys, I'm a bit late I know but for future reference, I would like to share my story. I had the same problem and I took it out and saw what I had, then went to a hose doctor. Mine was a company called Hydralink, here I obtained the exact same size oval shaped reinforced hose as it needs to be reinforced so as not to collapse on acceleration and block the airflow. Measured it between the inner rims same as where the flex meets the rubber ends. Slid a small sharp knife in under the flex material at the centre of the flat ends of the oval shape and scissored my way to the ends or corners, be careful not to slice through the rubber, then just pulled it out. I then hit it with a small air grinder and smoothed out the ends where the mesh material was, put it all together and tested for length. Once I had it right I sealed it with a non toxic smelling black silastic so as not to interfere with the air mixture sensor. It works a treat. I hope that helps others.

    Cheers

Get a Southdown snorkel kit. Completely removes the problem.

    Cheers,

    Jason
