It came with the 7 seat models so the passengers can access the rear 2 seats. I'm sure you could get one off a wreck if you wanted one.
Looking for Disco 2As on the internet and noticed some have a back step under the rear bumper and some don`t. Is it an option, accessory or was it fitted to a particular spec model?
My wife thinks it`s a good idea so we will look out for the step when we get serious with test drives and stuff.
Thanks, Rob.

Thanks for the quick reply mattyg!
Is there provision to fit one i.e. brackets, bolt holes to look for, if we see a vehicle we like, but the step is not there for whatever reason, and then get one from a wreckers?
Thanks, Rob.
P.S. is the same provision on 5 seaters even though the step isn`t there?

No worries, it just bolts onto the chassis rail. I assume the bolt holes are already there on all models but it would be easy to drill them out. There is an accessory fitting instruction manual that would have the exact instructions for the job. It is included in the RAVE Cd. (if you haven't heard of this it is a CD Rom workshop manual that has a ton of useful info on it.)
It is available for purchase through the 'shop' link at the top of the page.
Happy hunting for your car!
Thanks mattyg
it might seem a small issue in the big picture of buying a car, but I've got my wife's backing on this one so I'm happy that she's happy.
She says that my 4wd should be the complete opposite to her golf gti, which is cheap on fuel, fast and rubbish on dirt roads.
Thanks again, Rob.
Yep - fitted 1 to my 02 D2 (5 seat model) 'cos I have a 2" lift and it was becoming a pain to get at the roofrack from rear of vehicle. Now I simply use the step, rear door ladder and step straight onto the roofrack
If your intended purchase is a stocker, the step will bolt straight in with no problems. If it has a long range fuel tank (Like mine), then you'll need to use a shorter bolt on the upper mount hole as the original longer bolt will foul on the tank.
TIP - if you buy a step, extend it similar to if you were standing on it (It has a small hydraulic ram that lifts the step upwards out of the way once you step off) and cable tie it "open". It will be far easier to install that way as the upper mounting hole will be accessible. It is quite difficult to fit with it in the 'closed' position as the bolt holes will be partially obscured.
Any good Rover wrecker will have 1 for you - I got mine from Triumph Rover spares in Adelaide (Great company to deal with!)
Thanks Cattmatt.

I remove my one if I am going seriously bush as the step does slightly reduce departure angle. I find it easy to get on and off without any particular manoeuvring but no doubt the above will help. Another tip; the "hydraulic ram" is a gas strut and right or wrong I blame long sessions on dusty corrugations for it's failure so another reason to remove it on such trips if it is not required to save the cost of replacing the strut.
Thanks John W
I'll take that info onboard. One of the reasons we have decided on a LR Disco is this forum and the information that is offered by members to newcomers to 4WDing like us.
Cheers Rob.
