    D2 hubs fit D1 axle?

    G'day All,
can you fit D2 hubs onto a D1 axle?
Why? I have an offroad trailer built on a cut down D1 chassis with the triple link suspension & axle so the hubs matched my old defender. But I have a D2 now and hope to change the trailer hubs.
Can this be done easily? or should I resign myself to mismatched rims?
    Cheers,
    Alex

No, not without a whole lot of work anyway.
    Completely different design.

There are adaptors to do this that may be legal on a trailer (they're not legal on a car though).

D2 hubs are a complete unit with bearing in-built, they bolt onto a face on the axle housing, in short, no they don't fit, but as Scouse said you can get the adapters to fit D2 wheels onto a D1 hub. Technicaly it is illegal, as you aren't supposed to have spacers but it is only a technicality, if a wheel doesn't come off there should never be a problem.

Discovery 1 Hub Adaptors & Wheel Spacers at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

That is an example of the adapters, quite pricey, but there is a lot of work in them.

You have a complete D1 axle assembly under your trailer?

Get two D2 hubs and cut out flange plates for them to bolt to.
Cut the ends off the axle tubes and weld the flange plates on. Bolt the D2 hubs to the flange plates.

    Job done.

There may be details to sort out, but it seems easy enough in my mind!
