If there was a short it would blow the fuse not the bulb.
Are you handling the bulbs properly while installing?

Not handling incorrectly, changed bulbs before, with no problem.

    Sorry Nicky,
    Had to ask.

The only other explanations I can think of are:
    • bad batch of bulbs
    • voltage surge from alternator
    • moisture in headlight
Perhaps others can add to this.
The earth point is adjacent to the battery box.

I'd discount any surge in the charging system as it's specifc to just a single bulb, and the battery alone would any notable surge.

Other than bad bulbs, it really looks like a physical issue, perhaps another possibility is that the housing is loose and it vibrates more than normal?

    Hi,
My 2003 D2a has blown headlight globes since new. From memery it may be LHS more than RHS. I generally get about 6 months out of a globe. I have tried various brands etc but found no difference. (Yes I handle them correctly etc.)

I now have removing the grill & headlight unit down to a fine art, made harder by the TJM bar I have fitted.

Happy to hear anyone's suggestions on possible fixes also.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Turns out, tried another bulb, OK. Faulty new bulbs are APITA!
