    hissing noise from engine

Hi All, I've got a air hissing sound when taking off but only comes on at approx 1000 rpm then at 1100 rpm disappears, i would have thought if it was turbo hose or manifold it would be there all the time, any ideas

    cheers

Haven't run over an angry snake have you, LOL, seriously check that all the turbo/intercooler hoses are on and tight and with out splits, could also be the wastegate playing up, Regards Frank.

I have had turbo hose issues and cracked manifold stud issues and both of those produce noises that do not "start at 1000 and go way at 1100". They start and keep on making more noise as revs increase.

I would be looking at something else,

    Cheers

Take it to a LR dealer you have trust in and get them to check it out, it is extremely hard to diagnose a problem from afar, as you don't seem to have the expertise to check it properly yourself (wastegate that is) check the hoses and clamps as doing that will cost nothing, may be as alpick says, then it may not, Regards Frank.

Fill your car up first before setting out to find a LR dealer you can trust, might be a decent drive.

Could it just be the expansion cap (radiator cap). The rubber seal and tip of the cap start to wear after 9 years or so. How many people replace these as a part of their routine maintenance.

    Regards

    Engine hissing noise

I had a similar problem and after many ideas including needing a new turbo it was nothing more than a leak between the exhaust and the manifold.
