TD5 Rough running at cold start

When I go to start the Disco (270K)first thing in the morning it has a bit of a rough idle for a minute and then runs fine for the rest of the day. Warm up starts it does not do it, worse at colder temps.
This am tried to start had a rough idle then stopped, I could not restart it. No warning lights and cranks well, can hear fuel pump running, has fuel. Will retry when I get home and see what happens.
I do run injector cleaner through it on a semi regular basis.
    1) will recheck to see if oil in loom
    2) could a dirty MAF cause this - will clean and see.
    3) injector problem?

Mine is doing the same (the brief rough running - about 5 seconds and worse when cold).

Research I have done on here suggests that could be the IAT sensor or more likely it could be a leaking copper ring on the injector.

I am having it looked at next week.

You could add these to the list of suspects:

    - Fuel Temp sensor
    - Coolant Sensor
    - Crank Shaft Position sensor

The MAP/IAT is unlikely to cause starting issues.

Could also be a faulty fuel injection leaking down after sitting for awhile. Over fueling for initial start-up.

I was always led to believe that the rough running on startup was due to the fact that the diesel only had 4 glowplugs and that it was the cold 5th cylinder 'rattling' around until it got its act together.

    Not that I have noticed.
Yesterday It failed to start after it quit - 1st time this happened.
Tried to restart but would just crank over.
This am - thinking maybe a fuel pump issue, I went through the process of a restart as if run out of fuel - had a bit of a rough start but had alot of black smoke for a couple of minutes but has been normal since.

My rough idle at intial start up was fixed by putting in a new injector harness. Im not sure about all the other stuff tho.....
