My two bob's worth. My son has had Maxxis Bravo's on his Triton for 18mths and very happy with them. I recently put on Maxxis MA-751 BRAVO 245/75R16, speed rated 120/116Q, 10ply, 75% on 25% off road @ $233ea. My speedo is now slow by 5%, original OD 736mm, 245/75's 774mm. Just did a return trip down south of nearly 4k, incl 700ks on dirt and was very impressed. Stable and handled well on all surfaces (I don't go slow on dirt). Way better than the POS Michelin's that were on there, three of them failed on dirt last trip with tread separation. I used to run Khumo's on my Classic Rangie and had good runs out of them. Mine had scorpian atrs on it when I got it, not new after 30,00ks have replaced them with another set, was a toss up between them and 697 bridgestones . had 694s on prado I used to have liked them.
Had coopers on disco 1 would not get another set.

Thats what mine had when I got it, worst gravel tyre I have driven on in a long time!Cool if sideways is your driving style though!After a rock puncture twice in 3 days I swapped over to Scorpion ATR's, Wow! chalk and cheese! quiet on bitumen, corners in gravel without opposite lock! not a muddie but will do wonders with TC . But then I dont use it in heavy off anyway.

As I said in my previous post my son has 265/70/16's on his Triton trayback & his are going well, hence thought I'd give them a go. I know it's early days, but maybe because my Maxxis are LT's they are stronger in the sidewalls. They certainly don't go sideways and are very stable and predictable with no stone damage so far. I used to run Mitchys on my Rangie , but in 2005 went across to the Pilbara & had two nearly new Synchrones fail with tread separation. Michelin didn't want to know about it. Obviously haven't improved since as they are still rubbish. I then bought Cooper ATR's, but took them off after the first long trip on dirt. They squirmed, were not very stable & the tread was shredding from stone damage. Ran Kuhmo's after that and was fairly happy with them.

If mainly on road, sand and towing Maxxis Bravo 751 in LT 245/75/16. If more off-road General a Grabber At2 LT. Both kick the older Scorpion ATR and the Mich XPC. Personally i don't do Coopers.

just for clarification and direction. i currently have standard 16x7 disco 2 rims with 245/75 at maxxis but have a set of p38 16x8 rims that i'm looking to put a mud tire on just for scrub work. after reading the link here and checking tire data i think the 245/75 is the way i'll go or is there a better profile fit for 8" rims. chris
245.75x16 are a bit narrow for 8 inch rims and very few tyre companies recommend bigger than 7.5.
I was refused on 245.75x16 697s by a Bridgestone store.
I fitted 255.70x16 BFG AT and are very happy with them.
Tempe Tyres has them still at $255.
