Lovells HD spring kit & SLS

Hi all, I want to put in a 50mm lift and plan for a bar, but dont have the bar yet. Has anyone used the Lovells HD (front) spring kit (+50mm or +80mm without bar?) with SLS? What is the preferred method of raising the SLS rear? Are there issues with having no bar initially (nose up ride?) and adding it later?

    Thanks!

I've got HD +50's all round with only a winch in a custom tray and custom tube bar which all up is <50kg. Even before I'm glad I didn't get the std +50's as it's firm but not uncomfortable, controlled in corners without feeling like it'll tip because it's too stiff. Mines a 2000D2 coils all round and ACE & std shocks at the moment.

    SLS lift kit

There are a couple of posts on this site for them. Have a look at

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ls-2-lift.html
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ls-airbag.html. The probag link didn't work off this link for me, so I guess the site has been refreshed and old links broken.

I understand Tombie used to sell a kit, but the design got ripped off by some others, so I think he got a bit p!**ed and doesn't manufacture them anymore. Don't blame him -I understand that they even had the cheek to return the kit and ask for a refund!!

By the looks of things, you need to get a kit to reposition the sensors into getting a reading that it's at standard height when it's at 50 mm higher. For the airbags, you can fit a 50mm spacer underneath it, if this is legal in your state (in Queensland it's not), or get a larger airbag. Hence the probag link.

I did a 40mm lift using dobinsons springs to suit bar only. I have winch as well but dobinsons springs for bar and winch gave over 40mm lift and did not want the hassle of longer brake and ABS lines lowering cross member etc that go with a lift over 40mm.

Also bilstein make a specific shock for SLS up to 40mm that allows use of the off road 60mm height extension. Search bilstein shocks

The stock rear shocks on the SLS open to 570mm so you need a shock opening of at least 570 plus your lift, to cater for the SLS off road mode or you might get into the shock height adjusters fromLRA.

Driving with the nose in the air gets up the attention of those in front of you and oncoming traffic at night, lights em up real well, right in the eyes!

My first set of the dobinsons did that.

Over 40mm requires adjustment of the x member as well to stop the front prop shaft rubbing on it at full extension.

I went with the bilsteins on the front as well, again a longer shock for the extra travel. Much firmer ride but very happy with the drivability on road and off.

Alpick, What's different with the SLS shocks, except for the length ? Is the valving the same as coils (ie Bilstein 995 part nr) or is it a different part nr ?

Its a length thing, the 995's go out to 618mm from memory which allows for a 40mm lift and the +60mmm SLS off road mode, the logic being if std shocks do 570mmm then the rest is maths?

the bilstein 995's will not top out in off road made up to a 40mm lift.
A two inch lift will see the Be995's top out.

Valving? not my area although you can get heasmans in sydney to valve the 995's any way you want.

more info and some pics here

    hope that answers it

    cheers

What is the colour of Lovells and Dobsons? I had one or the other previously in my truck, but can't remember which, I do remember they were a teal colour though.
