Leaving the fold...(now I'll duck for cover)!

    Hi guys,

It seems that after 12 months of fantastic Discovery ownership again, I have to leave the fold. The financial planner has told me to sell "Disco" and lease a twin cab ute. So, hence, therefore, here we go again...its up for sale! I think I'll be getting a Triton ( I know I know its not a Land Rover, but its in the price range we can spend).

Have a search for the broken chassis pics of the tritons... Sure they may have been overloaded, but it highlights an inherent weakness in the chassis design.

If I was buying a DC ute it would be an amarok or a bt50.

    Yeah thanks!

Ive done some research ont he chassis issue. As for a Amarok, yes please! But way to pricey as I want to spend $30k. A bt50 is nice but the rear seat space is heaps more in a triton than most other DC utes and with 2 little carpt commandos, as well as taking adults on 4WD trips and skiing days I want a bigger back seat.

Well, in that case, you could buy a Great Wall dual cab diesel 4WD and have over $2k change.

we are on our second triton at work and they are a nice car to drive but i wouldnt buy or lease one myself as they are pretty gutless and have a huge lag when you want to plant the foot to get out into traffic as well as having a few other problems after 40000 and 80000km and a few from one of the timber mills around here blew up with oil issues so good luck with it

Nissans bend as well - anything does if overloaded .....

Saw a Nissan Navara when I was coming through Toowoomba - still being driven, but the styleside had about 200mm of clearance at the top and 50 at the bottom - chassis was like a banana. Best is the video of a LRD recovery in the states with a tow truck in the middle - you can see the chassis bend in the video... The statement at the end - "this is gonna cost you more than 50 bucks now" (or similar words) is priceless - I'd be arguing "no, it ain't...."

Triton GLX R diesel with the (electric?) rear opening windows onto the tray - slide them open, all the hot air is gone in 15 seconds of a/c operation or driving ... brilliant.

    Triton vs other DC's

    Hey there,
    Just finished a 2 year lease on a TD 2.5 GLX-r Triton.
Good car, well made, roomy interior, most leg room of any DC. (percieved and real)
    Pro's:
    Comfortable highway cruiser
Seems higher than other DC's with out lift
    Coil front not torsion bars
Lag problem solved with Chip It Tuning Chip
    Con's
Quite thirsty if you go over the speed limit!
Traction control needs to be turned off if you are going on the sand!
Oil filter makes a mess when you change it.
Grey door skins mark easily and can look shabby very quick.

Overall a good car would of kept it but the Discovery came into my life so the Triton has moved on.
    Cheers
