    Rear Bulb Issues

    Hi guys
After picking up my Disco 2 nearly 2 months ago, dad noticed the rear brake, driving and reversing lights weren't working.
we pulled the light fitting out, and sure enough they were all blown.
Went into Supercheap, got the replacement bulbs, checked the wiring, cleaned the ports, etc and installed them. Reverse light seemed a bit dim but apart from that it was all good.
Just had a mate tell me my brake light is now faded as well, and sure enough he was spot on.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Do I just have dodgy bulbs, or is this a wiring issue?
    Cheers

My guess would be bad earth connections.
Check the earth connections back to earth points C0707 and C0706 (somewhere behind the air vents at each side in the rear of the passenger compartment, I think).
Taking the light fittings out might help find them, but I haven't looked for them myself.

Bad earth sounds right, just looking at the wiring diagram in the owners workshop manual, earth locations for the stop & reversing lights are given as- E11 , at RH rear seat belt reel, E13 at LH rear seat belt reel. I haven't looked myself, probably worth a look. Something else worth knowing, I think, is fuse 25 in the passenger compartment fuse box is the fuse for both stoplights and reversing lights, Bob [ talking TD5]
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Bump.
    Pulled the rear apart today.
There's no earth point near the seatbelt reel. At least not that I could find and I pulled all the trim off
Cleaned the earth point behind the rear vent, also no go.
Bulbs are fine, all connections *appear* to be clean, so I'm looking for any other ideas.
    Cheers

Put a ohm meter between a good earth point on the car and the negative terminal where one of the bulbs plugs into. A high resistance will indicate a earthing problem either at the earth point or a damaged negative cable.

While your there it wouldn't hurt to check the positive side of the lamp holders to make sure you have the correct voltage. Voltmeter - one lead onto positive bulb holder (light will need to be "on". One lead to a good earth.

I found that the problem with the rear blinkers into D2a were just poor connections between the bulb and the socket. I sprayed a bit of contact cleaner in the socket and all was good for a year or so then time to do it again.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, I'll give it another go tomorrow.
Does anyone know if the electrical libraries and other electrical manuals refer to 7 seaters?
Because the listed location of the earth point is behind the seatbelt reel, and I pulled all the trim off and there's nothing there.
Found the earth point behind the rear vent, is this where the seatbelt reel for 7 seaters is?
    Cheers
