VIC High Country in a D2

    G'day guys,
Went for a drive a few weeks ago over Mt Scene (Jamison Licola rd) a few weeks ago and noticed heaps of interesting little tracks off the side...
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with with any of these tracks eg. Axe trak, Silvermine spur tk and Furguson tk? Interested to hear some thoughts on if my stock v8 auto with 60% A/T tyres would be capable of exploring these type tracks. Also if anyone can suggest any tracks around that area that might suitably challenge myself and cousin in his stock D3, would be greatly appreciated. Between us we have a hand winch, shovel, snatch straps, ropes and air compressor.
    Thanks
    Grant.
    P.s. I don't have CDL or a heap of 4x4 experience!

The tracks mentioned go from ok to difficult depending on the weather from the week or so before. Most tracks are pretty wet atm.
If neither of you have much 4x4 experience why not put up a post in 'upcoming events' and get one or two more experienced guys to go with you?
You'll learn plenty, meet some other forum members and you might just avoid getting yourself into some real trouble up there. There will almost always be someone who is up for a day out.
Be aware also that all of the tracks on Mt Sken require a club permit from Queens Birthday w/e onwards. The fines for going up there without the permit are very heavy and it is policed!

Did you see this while up there?
I can't remember where it was now.

There aren't too many open tracks that a stock D2 won't handle if the weather's been fine.

    Wardy,
The only things any government is good at is fining people and taking away their freedom.

I really must learn how to post a pic properly.

    Beware of logging trucks!
Safest to assume there is one hurtling around every blind bend.
Had a memorable drive from Omeo to Dargo on the high track not long ago in my D2 - no probs in fine weather as long as you take it easy and keep alert. Wet roads are akin to an ice-skating rink.
Be sure to have a pie and beer at Dargo!

    Thanks for your reply's gents!
Wasa57, is that the Birregun trak you are talking about? A good drive with a pie and beer at the end sounds good to me!
Biggin, the tracks i saw are on the Jamison side of the mountain and head down to the Jamison river. They looked quiet steep to me, didn't have any ruts and they looked well used. So i guess if ground clearance isn't an issue it doesn't matter how steep the track is for the d2?
Wardy1, shame about the club permit thing, would be good to head up Mt Scene after a bit of snow... Will keep an eye out on upcoming events!
Thanks again for the for your reply's lads.
