What do you think of this D2?

Hi everyone, can some of you more experienced LR owners give me your opinion and advice regards buying this car. It may be someone on the forums who owns it. It`s just a bit of a drive to have a look at it and any comments or advice would help.
    Thanks, Rob.

It's not an SE it looks like an S 5 seater. Like any LR find out the history via invoices see what items have been replaced and compare it to what you can find in the searches on this forum.

Gear knob suggests that it has no CDL.

its d2a so will have the cdl and you can see the sticker in front shows cdl feature.

looks like a tidy buy, and they are honest about the towing bit at least.
depending on service history one worth looking at closely for the money.

Looks ok, tidy. Nice colour, price is ok.
Well worth a drive. Check the features listed are there, sometimes the features the owner selects via the ad options get confusing ie things get selected that are not not on the vehicle.

Check the Self Levelling Suspension pumps up to full off-road height within 30 secs, if not, budget for new airbags circa $400 (or pump )

In my experience at 10 yrs old all D2 & D2a need the following done for piece of mind, so why not ask owner about them:
    1. greasable uj's fitted to front prop (mod)
    2. new airbags
    3. wheel lock nuts replaced with standard wheel nuts
    4. History of the 3 Amigos with the car

Plus the obvious service history. Good Luck

Thanks all, this will be our 1st LR (4wd actually) so interested in any comments. I noticed the CDL gearknob/sticker discrepancy and the angle of the lever.
If it has been serviced regularly is that sort of mileage much of an issue for a V8?
    Thanks, Rob.

The angle suggests that it does have the diff lock fitted. The lever would be in a central position on the left/right axis if it had the non-cdl lever.

The most important thing is to get the vehicle inspected by a LR specialist. It will cost in the region of $200-300 but is the best way to assess the condition.

If you can find out who has been servicing the vehicle it's worth giving them a call and discussing the car with them. If you explain you are looking at buying they should be able to give you an idea of what has been done. As I discovered when looking at D2's a service stamp isn't always worth the ink used to make it.

Ultimately a specialist inspection will give you the information you need, and will pick up any issues that need attention.

I wouldn't get too hung up on things like upgraded propshafts, amigos, or the like. What you are looking for is a vehicle that has been well
maintained and passes a specialist inspection. If it meets those criteria you should be ok, or at very least be going in with open eyes.

    Cheers
    Paul

It's a funky CDL if that's what it is.

I have a 2003 SE D2a (in fact looks very similar to the car advertised except black) and the CDL is different.

    What's the VIN?

This car looks suss. Very cheap but probably for a good reason. Maybe someone imported it themselves.

    Regards
    Andrew
