    In-Tank Fuel Pump

While researching buying Disco 2 TD5 I was told they need a new $550 in-tank fuel pump every 2 years. Can anyone confirm or bust this one.

Who told you that? Mine's been going trouble-free since 2003.

    Hi
Mine is still going strong too, 2002 model Its more likely the fuel lines that run from the pump will give trouble. Mine rubbed through and sprayed a lot of diesel everywhere.
The cause on mine was the wiring loom between the fuel tank and body rubbed through the fuel lines. Others have had simular dramas with the lines rubbing trough on the chassis or body.
Was not too expensive to repair but a lot of work, Fuel pump out, tank drained and removed, lines replaced & refit.
The New lines I wrapped with that spiral stuff they use on wireing looms and any possible areas that might rub were protected.
This should be a must look at for any Disco 2 TD5 owner (not sure about the V8's).
I think some amount of protection/prevention can be done without removing the tank, a hoist would be good it is a bit tight and hard to see, a lot would have to be done by feel ! But might save dramas later?

The 2000 td5's were not included in the fuel line repair recall, it was later models that had the problem, there is no recall notice for my model vehicle on the topix site.

I agree with all the previous respondents - 2000 model, 173000km, AFAIK not done before Dec2011 when I bought it, no problems in the 10000km I've put on it since.
One thing I've heard about the in-tank fuel pumps is that the fuel acts as a heat sink & if the tank gets low the pump can overheat (mech advised me not to let the wifes commodore get below 1/4 tank) so as a preventive measure refuel before the light comes on.
