95 still pinged a fair bit but as ozscott indicated a bit of TLC and it runs as smooth as Jack Daniels on ice with 98
Cost... I didn't buy it to worry about the cost of fuel, I bought it because it was a V8 Land Rover

    Cheers,

    Peter.

This is what many TD5 drivers find difficult to contemplate.

I have a 4.6 in mine running the original computer. Pings under loads like hills but not towing type loads on anything but shell or BP premium. Still has a very light noise on premium but throttle manipulation gets by without loosing out power. Lucas octane booster FTMFW though, nil pinging and economy goes up massively.

interesting..I run 95 mostly, and am getting around 17-18l per100k round town, no pinging or concerns, havn't used E10 since Victoria, felt down on power..when I use 98 (touring ) I get as low as 14 l per 100, but doesn't seem to make much difference round town...like the sound of this booster stuff..where can you get it?

Get it most anywhere they sell lucas additives. Just needs to be ordered in usually. As an example, city for 4.6 auto I'll get 400-450k's, a trip a while back I towed a camper back across the mountains from past Lithgow back to Sydney on about 3/4 of a tank, without booster. With booster can get almost 550 in city.
