TD5 question if I may please

Gday I cant seem to get the search thingy to work for me so appologies if been done already.
A complianced 9/2001 TD5, does this have the CDL in the box (not connected) or is this one that does not have it at all?
I understand about having service history but what amount of km would you say is getting up to high or too much?. How many k's (Average) could I expect from a TD5 engine assuming its been looked after reasonably.
I am looking to buy another TD5, particularly interested in a specific 01 and as my one I used to have was an 99 model with lower k's I'm interested to know what amount of k's is getting up there if that makes sense. Obviously I would get lower k's if I had the extra money but I have to settle on vehicles that seem to have 200k to low 300's on the clock. Is this too much?. I'm sorry I know its a bit like how long is a piece of string but after your opinions please.
Cant wait to get back into a Disco

The change over is somewhere around April-May 2001 build date. The waters have been muddied by people quoting compliance and first registered dates as if they were interchangeable with build date.

Km's and care are not related. You can easily have an abused low kms vehicle.

200-250,000 is pretty reasonable if you find a well maintained vehicle.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply Paul, I would say then that this one does'nt have it. I know its 10 x better with them but does it really matter if it has'nt? I tow a van, might go on the beach, get to that trickier camp/fishing spot mainly the softer side of offroading. I'm not really into rock crawling/huge ruts heavier side of it anymore so would I necessarily need it do you think?

    Cheers Steve

The CDL was discontinued as LR thought the traction control would deal with any cross axle funny business and for the most part i would say it does this well.
As you say you are not going into any "heavy" 4wding so i dont think you will be needing it.
I had a 2001 TD5 disco, the transfer case had the internals all i needed to do was put the cable on if i wanted too. I never bothered too.
Discos get hung up on stuff before they get bogged.

That right there is rubbish, i've hung the D2 up on stuff, and i've also come damned near close to having the thing bogged in soft sand due to the traction control pulsing the front brakes to even out the drive front to back and killing momentum, i reckon another 100 metres and i would have been bogged and had my brake pads on fire. We recently made a CDL actuator arm, the OP has stated that he wants to drive on the beach, this is one of the main places that TC is a disadvantage and a CDL is bloody terrific, both working together, now thats when they are unstoppable when the goign gets tough. If you are even thinking about towing in soft sand you WILL need a CDL kit, we offered to make a lever for Dad's cousin who tows a van, they declined not wanting to put us through the effort, when they went to Fraser island they had to hook the D2 up to their friends D1 with no TC and the CDL locked to get up off the beach. Anyone who tells you the CDL is not needed for beach driving hasn't driven on proper sand, sorry but its true.

I guess that it largely depends on what you call "heavy 4wd".

Beach driving /soft deep sand does seem to be the thing that trips traction control without CDL up.

i can never get the search to work either,

what I find does work is do the search in google & preface it with 'aulro'
much better that the Forum search tool

so google 'aulro disco td5 cdl'

    gives you this
Google: aulro disco td5 cdl, search result

if you want results only from aulro:

    google 'site:aulro.com disco td5 cdl'

the "site:" limits the search to the domain and path you specify, so if you wanted to search posts in the Discovery 2 forum only you could use

    "site:aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2 fitting cdl"

cdl is handy if you need to drive without a drive shaft for some reason.

the traction control has some benefits over cdl and vice versa, the argument will never be settled

as for your high km td5 i would be looking at its service history and what its had replaced, as there are several things that if haven't been, would be likely close to needing done. so you would need to factoring that in.

searching around im sure there are lists somewhere of common things that wear out / fail with these. but some ones ive had to do even though i got mine at 130k and its now at 185k are:

xyz switch, front shaft rebuild, a/c drain reroute, rocker cover gasket, injector harness, oil pump bolt, shocks, discs, handbrake rattles, battery, various hose's, idler pulley, starter solenoid, etc.
