    Auto shuddering

Anyone had shudder when auto changing up sometimes second to third and sometimes third. to fourth gears. Mainly. when. everything is warm. Regular service done has new filter. and synthetic oil that has. made no change. Diagnosis showed no electronic fault .

What did it cost to fix?

This car also does no towing...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The only time I have experienced a shudder was with the front prop shaft. Check this if you haven't already. Look for small crack in the joints, only needs to be minor. There is a very popular thread on this site about if you are not aware.

Also the rubber coupling on the rear can cause a vibration.

    oil change now...

probably too late, the clutch packs are probably stuffed.

Hi, do you know what transmission is in it? Eg the transmission code? I have worked on these before but cant remember what model trans your disco came with.

A common issue is jammed solenoids caused by clutch material or metal not always from a major issue. This normally happens when hot. Also if it was a major issue there should have been signs when the sump was off during the service?

in that case you might have mixed the oils, some synths and minerals do not like each other and do funky things.

if its the clutch packs you're up for an overhaul a partial job might be about $1k worth of parts and labour for the box alone, a full overhaul is from $2k-$4kish depending on whats salvageable more if you do some upgrades on the way through.

it might also be that (and you're going to be a lucky bugger if this works out) the new oil doesnt have a lube package that the old oil did. when you've put the new oil in its begun to disolve the package additives out of the clutch material and its now giving you problems. IF (and Im sorely tempted to supersize, bold, underline and Italic that IF) thats the case then putting back the oil with the lube additives or adding a thrid party lube to what you've got Might restore normal operation BUT you're just masking a problem if thats the case and continuing to operate in that condition will cost more when it comes to overhaul time.

The box was. serviced Nov. last. year. with. mineral oil. and filter . the recent. oil. and filter. change was done. because. the shudder came. on about. 3 weeks. ago . Oil changes. have. been every. year. and filter. every 2nd year about. 40000 kms .The thing is it only happens sometimes when. warm about. half an hour after we start driving. and never. when cold well not yet.
