Thread: Lop sided steering.

Been. Having some steering issues:
1. Last August; allowed LR Dealer to talk me into letting them change the steering drag link.
2. Aug-Nov: car exported to Aus.
3. Mem sahib reports vague steering.
4. 2 weeks ago, noticed driver side front tyre worn on inside, passenger side okay. (we have owned this car since 07 and are on the second complete set of tyres - this has never happened before).
5. Corrected backlash, now find that wheel 5 deg to left when going straight
6. Wife reports more left lock available than right lock
7. She's right! I have 2 turns to left and 1 1/2 to the right but this does add up to the full 3 1/2 turns that I should have lock to lock.
8. Other than the back lash, all was well until the drag link was changed.

Thoughts please!

Get it onto a flat straight side street and slowly drive back and forth a few times letting the wheel go wherever it wants. Look under the drag link, there's a small section on the back where a locating bolt should be fitted into a thread in the base of the box. If this is not lined up the drop arm isn't fitted on in the correct allignment.

The other option is you've clouted something hard enough to twist the sector shaft in the box (shaft the drop arm fits to). I have this issue after I was hit by another car in the front left wheel. Fitted straight drag links etc but the steering wheel is still 30deg out to right. Got a wheel allignment, drives straight etc but needs new box.

The other way to check is to turn the wheel to allign to fit the bolt and see where the wheel is. If it's out, it's either fitted incorrectly or twisted.
