... an update... the triangle shape 'thing' and the nut is there but hubby could not for the life of him get CDL engaged, he did hear a 'click' from around or in the vacinity, so maybe something was moving somewhere.... but unfortunately cannot get it engaged, maybe the outside 'bits' are just there for looks ...
oh well, onto plan 2....

thanks for that, a 10mm spanner as suggested in a post/forum elsewhere didn't make it any easier, perhaps that comment was more meant for once the inside console was out!?!?!Quote:

Hi, I just went out to the shed to have a look at one I had out of the car.
If you come in from above the front tail shaft with a 10mm spanner on the nut it swings out away from the gearbox about a 1/4 of a turn. On one transfer I had I herd a clunk noise. You then need to grab the flange or tail shaft and move it back and forth until it engages. It should all move pretty easily. Good luck.

You just need to turn with a 10mm open ended spanner.

I,d very surprised if the diff lock is siezed, but it does,nt need a lot of force to turn it.

I believe that unlike a D1 where you can remove the cv/axle that drives the flange, the D2 cannot. Therefore if you are looking to engage the cld to drive on the rear axle only you might want to get some advice before you do.
Thanks so much everyone for your replies and esp this one above :D.... not sure whether he did that but will ask him tomorrow. As for now, the driveshaft is back on as I need to move it out from under the carport. His FJ40 is out of action which is behind mine and I have to move mine so he can bring his motorbike up so he can get the part for his FJ40... bit of a bollocks night mechanically IMO .... think he was a bit over it all by the time he got to my landrover!.... oh well.... tomorrow is another day :-DQuote:

Another easy way to tell whether a disco has CDL or not is to just look at the small shift lever and compare it to others, such as these examples:
NO DIFF LOCK

The position of the shifters above reveal which has CDL. As a guide, if the lever is in the centre, no CDL otherwise if the lever is positioned over to the far right, it has CDL.
