    D2 2001 factory ES fog/driving lights

My ES TD5 had the fog lamps that fitted in the front bumper since were removed to fit bulbar. The wiring plugs are still there including the binnacle switches.
Can I use this switch and wiring setup to run 2 x 100 watt driving lights mounted on the bullbar saving running wires mounting dash switches etc through firewall. Do these factory fog lamps switch on and off with high beam? Can it be configured as fog lamps can be enabled with the nanocom I noticed?
    Cheers

Hi Glenn, the BCU settings for the front foglights are as follows:

In cases where front fog lamps are fitted, the BCU controls their operation via the IDM. The operation of the front fog lamps is therefore programmable, (using a NANOCOM or similar device) to accommodate the legislative requirements of individual markets.
    The available options are:
    1. The vehicle is not fitted with front fog lamps (NOT FITTED).
    2. The front fog lamps operate when the headlamps are dipped or are on main beam (MAIN).
    3. The front fog lamps will not operate if the headlamps are on main beam (NO MAIN).

You could plug driving lights into the fog light connectors and program "NO MAIN" or "MAIN" but neither would be legal - as driving lights should only be on when high (main) beam is on.

Not sure how many watts the wiring can handle but probably 2 x 55w.

    cheers

    Thanks Gary
Should have enabled when I was there!

I could fit a heavy relay with coil suppiled from the highbeam circiut and the fog lamp relay the run new lamps

Now to find someone with nanocom in the hunter region...

The original lights are only 55w and the wirings pretty small. Better to upgrade with a relay.

Glenn, You could probably set "NO MAIN" and use the front fog light switch to control a "reverse logic" relay to control fused power to the driving lights taken directly from the battery.

    Finally fitted Lightbar
Only works with low beam or parkers as discussed
If ecu was set to main it should work with highbeam also?

No relay used as lightbar is 180w, factory fog lights are 65W x 2

Ummm, You say the light bar is "only" 180w, so no relay, so did you use both lights cabling to hook the bar up? If you only used 1 side its running well over the 55w original draw. I would use a relay, save a heap of electrical gremlins later on. And regarding the programing, you can either have fogs that stays on when dipped or high beam, or only when dipped. Either of those are not legal for driving lights, remember this is a FOGLIGHT circuit . Running a reverse logic relay is 1 way around it.
    Cheers Scott

    BCU set to MAIN
12v relay coil wired to FL foglight feed
Another 12v relay coil fed from high-beam HB circiut

Dash FL foglight switch enables lightbar
Lightbar only on with HB if FL enabled
FL fed from battery thru both relay contacts

No additional wiring to dash and extra switches etc
    Relays behind RH headlamp

MM interesting reading. I have just bought my son a D2 with fog lights in the bull bar. Sounds like a bit of a drama to use the existing wiring. I would have thought it would be plug and play.
