Low fuel levels and not starting

For well over a year now my td5 disco has had a starting issue when down to 35 or less litres in the tank. It would start , run for a few seconds then die. To start I needed to go through the prime sequence quite a few times. Once running all ok ? Multiple trips to multiple mechanics saw two fuel pumps swapped as the old [ only a few months in both cases] were deemed to be faulty. Later I was assured it was either a leak in the injectors although the oil wasnt contaminated. Then later again the FPR was at fault. Last week I tried replacing the fuel filter housing with a new- used unit, cheaper than buying the non return and bleed valves seperately. Well for over a week now every day the car has started and continued to run , even when near empty.
Makes me wonder why this simple fix couldnt have been found sooner by the assorted specialists. I think I might start enjoying driving the Disco again !

Gday Mate. QUICK!! let's go for a drive together before something stops working!

Good to hear you have a resolution.
I think this is the same issue with thexprinters car last weekend. I see he has noticed your post, so you've helped already :-)
How much was the replacement housing?

    How's it all going?
    Dave.

Sounds similar to mine. Once it gets to less than half a tank it becomes hard to start in the mornings like there is no fuel in the line. I might try and replace that one day thanks!

sixty plus gst. a considerable price difference between this and the fuel pumps. pity i never got them back despite asking for them. the cheaper repair had been to fill up at half tank or 900 k's , whichever came first. also the fact it is a 135 litre tank makes the refills further apart but also thought to be a cause.

So did you replace the whole housing or just the filter? And where did you source it for $60?

Good to hear , mate. After all those problems on your trip, you have solved the problem yourself, well done! Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
