Petrol choice for Thor V8 ?

Iv'e always used 91 Ron with 10% Eth in our cars. However, I pulled up at BP the weekend and they only had 95 Premium or 98. I filled the Disco with 95 Ron thinking ah well just an extra 10 bucks to fill her.

Not sure if my mind is playing tricks here but the engine seems quieter and smoother ? Can this fuel make a difference?

Not sure about the Thor V8 but in our v6 commodore I always use 95RON as the mileage is sufficiently higher as to make it cheaper to run on than 91 RON ethanol blend.
I found a similar difference between biodiesel and fossil fuel diesel in my 300tdi defender - biodiesel 600km per tank (sucked dry), FF diesel 650 per tank (8-10L remaining).
Haven't tried biodiesel in the TD5 as a friend told me it killed her TD4 freelander (injector pump from memory) & I'm not willing to risk it, even if turned out cheaper in the short term (not my past experience)

We had a Hyundai Santa Fe v6. It ran far smoother & didn't ping on 95/98 fuel. It also went about an extra 50+ kms per tank. Hope this helps
Also always run my P38 Gems 4.6 on 95 when ever I could

The D2 Thor V8 came in a high compression and low compression version. Mine was the low compression version. I always used standard fuel and never had any problems. Use of higher octane fuel never seemed to do much for me either except cost more.

This is not a Thor specifically, but the compression ratio is stamped into the motor with the serial number. This one being 8.13:1 is a low CR, I think the high CR motors were 9.35

Seems a no brainer to stick to 95. A week later still smoother and looks like indeed i will be a more K's out of it.

Hi Gary, what the "ping" you refer to?
