I have bought a D2 from an auction, took the risk, had to replace a front hub, but that is all good.
It always ran cold, pulled the thermostat housing.... empty. Rang some alarm bells.... Bought a new one, put it in, perfect, nice warm air coming from the heater, let it sit in the drive for about 10 mins, all good.
Took it for a drive, great... after about 10 mins all was still fine, guage was about half way, I was doing some slow driving, traffic lights ect.... looked down and guage was showing 3/4's... and I could physically see the guage climbing up, in about 15 seconds it was in the red, light come on and I shut it down. Let it cool, lucky I was only about 500m from home, limped it home letting it cool down a couple more times. I noticed it was blowing out cold air in the heater though, got it home and could hear the water boiling up near the throttle body, plenty of water still in the header tank.
No mis fire at all, no signs of any water in the oil when I bought it, still none now so doesn't look to be a head.
Is there usually a circulation problem with these, as the heater core is obviously not getting any water, hoses all felt hot under the bonnet, as did the radiator.
The outside of the rad core looks fine, no blocks, thermo is coming on when it gets to temp also.
Your thoughts ???
Help and advice greatly appreciated
Cheers.
