    Rhino rack heavy duty bars

I have fitted the CXB mounts to the roof rails and want to fit a gutter mount for a third rail. Rhino spec the RL 280 bit this seems way to high, has anyone fitted the RL 210 by massaging the edge and fitting the spacer or other options?

I have 3x HD bars on RL210 legs on the D2a.

Angle grinder and a bit of shaping, AND 2 x 10mm spacers per leg.

All is revealed here ... http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...bars-legs.html

... relevant pics of the legs from page 3.

I did the 210 legs with the aero bars, added 10mm spacer just to give a little more clearance.

I used a cut down hacksaw blade to sculpt mine.

Also noted that these racks will clear the factory rails just in front of the pillion between the front and back seats (this was before adding the spacers)

    Hope this helps

Here's a point to note re clearance & height above the roof (RL210 leg & 2 10mm spacers)

The bar bar lower side is lower than the roof rail. Cannot move the bar any further forward.

With the angle of the roof, the rails slope down.
If you position the racks on the pillar between the front and rear doors mine clear the factory rails.

I measured from under the rack rail to the gutter base is 260mm when using the factory rail mounts adaptors. From the pics it looks like even with the spacers the RL210 is still well short.

I use the aero bars, so fluid could give you a more accurate measurement of the heights you need.

Do you have the box or aero bar?

    See the picture above

They are the HD (box) bars, 210 re-shaped legs with 2x10mm spacers.

Measured from under the rack rail (which is the top of the 10mm spacer set) to the gutter base is 245-250mm. (so 210 legs are longer than 210 ?)

I used 2x spacers on the rear bar so it would clear the curve in the roof (won't with 1x 10mm spacer). The centre bar is just behind the rear of the roof rails. The front bar is pulled backwards till it almost touches the top of the roof rails (which puts it slightly rearward of mid-way above the drivers window). I have a 2m internal rhino tray up there.

As I already had the CXB rail mounts I ended up fitting one RL280 gutter mount as the 210 is just to low to level out with CXB mounts.
All line up with a slight tip to the front
I think it looks better than three 280mm gutter mounts?
Thanks to all for the suggestions
