Oil leak from transfer case, CDL linkage
Hi Guys,
I have a constant oil leak from transfer case of my 2000 TD5. LR said it was shaft seals (approx $600), but there is no oil around or coming from hand brake drum.
I degreased & pressure blasted transfer case & first oil I could see after driving about 50K was from shaft with weight attached. Does anyone know what this does & is it common for oil to leak from this shaft.
Any other ideas where oil could be leaking from & how to fix would be appreciated.
I am also chasing a CDL linkage, as I figure if box has to come out I may get linkage installed at same time.
Cheers..B

The shaft leak may be on the Intermidiate shaft.
Look for a leak between the transfer and trans boxes.
The input seal leaks down to the gap you see.
The intermidiate shaft (about the size of a 20cent coin)leaks from higher up.
There is a thread with a picture of these, I found it while searching for repairs to mine.
If you do it get the centre diff brass shims checked too.
Mine had 2 worn and 2 missing.

I had a pretty bad leak, got a mechanic to fix it and it was due some nuts and bolts being loose or something. It was towards the rear of the t case and it lost heaps. I hope this helps somehow, sorry I can't be more helpful but I don't remember exactly what the issue was.
