Slow to start Td5
Disco has always started first click of the ignition without even waiting for the glow plugs. This morning engine turned over quite rapidly without firing up. After turning it over long enough hopped out of the cabin with the ignition on to listen for the fuel pump, all sounded normal so another try and started easily. Has driven and started all day as per normal. No fuel leaks etc to find and there are no faults logged with a check of nanocom.
Is there anything else to check as I need to have the disco bomb proof for up coming trips? Is this the start of a dodgy fuel pump or regulator?

So it's been slow to start recently? I had a starter motor issue a while ago. I ordered the parts to replace the solenoid as it was taking a lot to start sometimes, I could hear it clicking but nothing happened for a while but eventually it started. Eventually it got worse but I fixed it before it had a chance to completely die on me. What happens is the contacts of the of the solenoid becomes worn and/or dirty thus preventing contact. When I fixed mine one contact was worse than the other and very dirty. I tried to do it in situ but couldn't get the right angle to take off the right nut. If you believe it cOuld be the starter than try a solenoid repair kit, if it happens while your away you can always jump start the car; or bring a repair kit. Be sure to bring a 1/2 inch ratchet with extension and deep impact 15mm and 13mm sockets. The top nut is 15mm and is a massive PITA to remove. It is known as the nut from hell, kept me off the road for a week. ><

Happened once to me. When I tried to restart it straight away, no go. Waited 30s and off she went. As I said, only happened once about 6 months ago and have had the Landy for over 18 months.

Could be a fuel pump issue. Mine does it as well when cold, it's almost like the fuel runs back to the tank overnight, instead of staying in the head. It usually starts on the 2nd go. Try turning the ignition on until you hear the pump and wait until it turns off and then try starting it. I have tried changing the filter, and had no luck. So next step is changing the fuel pump.

Thanks. Was all good this morning firing up with first crank. I think if it is to start happening again I will have to look at the pump.

Has happened to me on a number of occasions. I blame the immobiliser as it continued to happen on my driveway one day and just couldn't start the car, went inside and got spare key and started straight away.
When travelling far from home my wife and I both carry a key for safety sake.
Not sure why the security system doesn't identify the transponder in the key? Open to suggestions though

Hello,
Mine did the same a little hard to start then not starting at all, did the same as you primed then started. It turned out to be the injector washers and o rings once replaced all good. I cost about $200 to do had it back the same day, your engine oil will creek up slowly as well.

Yes... turning over but like no fuel... i have had that 3 or 4 times on our 99 td5. When it happens it will turn over for ages without any hint of wanting to fire like your out of fuel . I asked MR Auto about it they didn't have an answer for me. When they did a bottom end rebuild after oil pumpbolt failure they adjusted the pump output. That's what they said. Any way over 12 months now and hasn't happened again.

no fuel
i had an ongoing similar to this for ages.tried three fuel pumps , no difference. had the oil checked for fuel contamination , none. tried to find external leaks . so out of curiosity changed the fuel filter housing , suspecting either the non return or bleed valve. either way since doing so has started and remained running each and every start no matter how much fuel is in the tank or how long it has sat since last running.
