    Td5 "issues".

This morning when I started my 2001 Td5 D2, the M&S lights started flashing.
I turned the engine off & restarted (which usually fixes this on the few times it has happened before), only went a couple of metres when they returned along with the engine light.

If it started with out the M&S lights, as soon as the revs got to around 2000, the engine light + the M&S would come back on & the engine would only idle.
This happened over 20 times within a few hundred metres.

Any ideas of a cause & a cure?
    Thanks in advance.

If this continues, I think it's going for a short drive off a long cliff!

    Cool

Is this the symptom of xyz switch failure? Perhaps a search on this topic could yield some intelligence.

I currently see this problem when I start in Park and transition to Reverse or Drive. As a work around (Until I get around to replacing the XYZ switch which is only 8 months old) I found that if I switch it off, select Neutral then go to Drive the M&S lights stay away 90% of the time. The vehicle has a new battery that is charging properly so that isn't the problem.

What's an xyz switch ? If this is another term for the gearbox inhibitor switch then this is your culprit. If you're really lucky it might just be mal adjusted. Check the air con drain hose as it sits directly above the inhibitor switch and contributes to its demise. SWMBO's D2a, which we bought new, is on its 5th inhibitor switch in 230K Kms.

I had the same issue, did you get a new XYZ or a second hand one? I resolved the issue by drilling out the rivits on the switch, cleaning with a conctact cleaner, regreasing with dielectric grease then rebolting together with some 5/32" screws and nuts. I also smeared the mating faces with a gasket glue...had no issues for 6 months.

It was a new switch that came from ZF with the rebuilt transmission. It worked fine up until about 2 months ago. It may have moved slightly and I will try adjusting it before I replace it with a used one that I know was working properly. If that solves the problem the current one will be going back to ZF as a warranty claim.

    I'm mobile again!

LRHybrid100 came over last night with his nanacom & cleared all of the logged faults.

Thanks to all for you suggestions, fingers crossed it will keep doing the right thing.

Now to find what caused them.

    Thanks again,
    Mark.

As mentioned, how old is the battery?
