    Radio Interference Westfield Carindale

Just got back from Westfield Carindale (QLD). Parked the car, walked away a bit, key fob wouldn't work (ie no locking available). Went back to car, right next to it. Still no go for locking. Key in ignition - no go. Tried resetting the immobiliser in the engine bay (don't know why it would have been triggered, but hey worth a shot). No go with fob or starting. So...

Put on the nannocom - engine starts. No faults that I could see. Nannacom out. No start. WT???

Moved the car one row over, pretty much in line with previous parking bay. All works ok. Could not see anything in the old parking bay that would cause RFI.

So, two questions... why would the nannacom being plugged in allow it work? I would have thought if it was RFI that the security system wouldn't operate, even with a nannacom.

Any thoughts on what could be causing the RFI and for it to not be evident some 4 to 6 metres away? Only things I could see were gas discharge lights (yellow ones on the ceiling) and fluoros. It also has cameras, but these are wired in, with no evident radio antenna that I could see. I'm assuming RFI caused the issue, but I can't see where it was coming from.

If I'm bored tomorrow, I will try and park in the same positions and give it another go.....

BTW: If others have this issue, PM me and if I'm free, I'll come along with Mr Nannacom

That is how RF signals work and why walking in between a radio and a transmitter can alter the signal. I would think plugging in the nanocom and seemingly curing the issue, had more to do with the changes you made in the RF path rather than the act of plugging in Mr Nanocom.

I am an elec engineer and a ham radio operator so have seen these things before. It seems weird because it is just that.

    radio interference

this problem can crop up where you least expect it.RI is generated from so many sources and if not the actual frequency can generate strong harmonics.
tip....if you find trouble with your fob especially unlocking reach up inside the right hand mudguard with it and try it.
this acts as a shield and might actuate the system.
