Hid highbeam conversion on a D2a?

Is it possible to upgrade just the highbeam's to hid? I assume it is but haven't seen much about it.
On the D2a they have two single filament globes (h4) so one would think it is theoritically possible but is it possible with the wiring and the available room etc...
Has anyone done it. I would think just a standard spotlight hid upgrade would be the one to put in...

    Any info appreciated

If i recall correctly, I think you will find they are H7 lights and the simple fix is $40 H7 upgrades - thats what I have planned for all 4 bulbs anyway

    Blinded by the light

The lenses are not designed for hid and will throw light everywhere, blinding other drivers. Hence this upgrade is what is commonly called illegal and the boys may ask you to pay some silly thing called a fine.Put in some +50% to +120% bulbs. Same wattage but more light; also doesn't have warmup time of hids.

High beam conversion won't blind other drivers.

Having said that, I did a HID conversion to our Subaru Liberty high beam in an effort to get more light. The results were very dissapointing as the reflector is just too small for any decent light. I suspect the light source is no longer at the correct focal point for the reflector as well.

lights are illegal if they blind other drivers or are overly blue and dont conform to the adr definition of white light.
be jiggered if i have ever heard of anyone getting done though.

Plus I was only going to do my high beam so in theory other people shouldn't see the conversion. I'm willing to take the risk...
They probably are h7. I think I got sold a h4 incorrectly once and this is what mixed me up. The led fog light conversion might be better

They're definitely H7. After having fitted a HID kit to my D4's high beam I realise I should have done so with my D2a when I had it rather than persist with +50 globes that needed replacing regularly.

I recently changed my RRS lights to HIDs and was well aware of this supposed issue and took measurements with my calipers. I found the H7 HID globes I were using were exactly the same dimensions as the H7 halogens.

The lighting chamber of the HIDs was exactly the same length as the filment in the halogens and the chamber was positioned exactly the same distance from the mount as the halogens - so while I cannot speak for other globes or manufacturers, my globes fit the dimensions of the halogens perfectly. This is reflected in my light pattern that is the same as the halogens. However given the hype about HIDs I do do not think they are all they are hyped up to be.

When used in high beam the major issue is the light up time.

Likewise people bag HIDs and exclaim how illegal they are yet are happy to recommend hi wattage halogens which are just as illegal as HIDs in standard fittings.

I have been blinded more from over rated and misaligned Halogens than I have with HIDs.

If you want HIDs go for them but be aware of the slow light up time.

Going HID high beam and std low will leave you blind when you dip....

The wavelengths are VERY different and your eyes will 'lag' when you dip, giving a period of poor vision...

(I think I need to start a light thread)

I also used +30s in the low beam.
