Lot's of Leaks - Engine & Transfer Case

I was a bad boy and let my car service go outside the 6 mth/10,000km limits on my 3rd Party Warranty for the '04 TD5.

This service was the big one, 120,000kms and it hurt , and to top it off the mechanic picked up several issues that must be rectified before the warranty can continue. Apart from fixing the fuel pressure regulator (don't get me started) I have to rectify oil leaks at:
    • Timing Cover
    • Sump
    • Rear of Engine
    • Transfer case (multiple)

Just wondering if there are any tips or insight before I go about buying a stack of seals and dropping the transfer case out? I'm gonna do it myself, cause cost of labour on these jobs would be horrendous!

I'll replace output bearings while I have the transfer case out. Anything else I should do?

I've got RAVE, but any tips on removing a transfer case?

They arn't oil leaks, they are Land Rover anti rust devices

When you drop the sump run a bead of sealant along the block to timing case and rear main holder(4 spots).
Good chance to check the oil pump bolt too.

Also check your rocker cover gasket, the rear 1/2 moon may be weaping doen the rear of the motor.

I doubt the timing case is leaking, but it is possible.
Check the harmonic seal and both oil lines for the vachume pump.

I recently did my transfer box leaks, these thread may help..
    D2, LT230SE transfer box remove/fit hints please.

If you replace any bearing you'll have do the preloads too.
Mine where fine so just did the seals and thrust washers.

If it's leaking between the gearbox and transfer on the shaft oring you'll need to check the casing as they tend to flog out. Can be fixed by having it machined and an insert fitted.

I have just done the 200 000k service and I had to put in a lot more oil in the transfer case than I drained and now note that there is a little puddle on the garage floor under the transfer and a healthy weep of oil looking at the transfer box. If the problem is the shaft having flogged out the case (from what I am told a common problem) will it last another 10 000 with appropriate top ups or do they do a total fail? Reason for question is now less than one month to my Simpson trip!

I've just done the same John, I reckon half a litre more went in than came out. I've not got a noticeable drip yet, probably done 100Km's since it was changed - so you may have a problem worth looking at before giving the transfer box a hammering in the desert. It'll be cheaper to get it looked at/fixed than arranging a tow.
