The size does make a difference, but be aware that the auto (if thats your flavour) may not like it for too long. But a good quality rebuild (not necessarily with all the HP24 parts) but HD/larger clutches and so on will make it right.

Yes, the 4.6V8 from the NAS market didn't use the same transmission as the 4.0V8 and the TD5. It used the 4HP24EH which has a higher capacity. I'm also pretty sure the rear diff used the "P38" setup.
    Cheers

Is there anything to be changed re; engine mounts etc, or does it virtually drop straight in

Assuming it's a Bosch Motronics engine, it should just bolt in, with no modification to anything except maybe front cover stuff like oil cooler. The 4.6 and 4.0 share a block. The extra displacement is from stroke. If you can find a 4HP24E, then you might need propshafts, because the transmission is longer due to the bigger pump, but the stock shafts would probably still work.

I think the p38 has a 4HP24 in the 4.6 HSE version, but I don't know if the lt230 just bolts up where the Borg Warner used to be. I would think it should.

My 2003 with a 4.6 appears to have the same diffs as my 99 with 4.0. I don't think we got the 4 pinion p38 diffs in discos in the NAS market.

Oh ok. Well thats heaps of good info there. From what I gather the link with all the info on the QLD transport site said that any thing other than standard requires certification. Well thats the way I read it any way. Here is the link if any one wants to have a look. http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/c7..._vehicles2.pdf

I would think better to go through the red tape and get it done, than have an accident and find yourself un covered

Yeah exactly. As we know insurance companies are always looking for a way to not pay you if something happens. Thats why I have not gone any further with it. It's also not registered. It seems to be a project that is unfinished. I try and stay away from stuff like that.
