Question Front prop shaft packed up

Driving down the road and Hurd a massive thump under the car... Got out to find the front prop shaft down the road.... I changed 2 of the uni joints last year... But all uni joints and couplings are in pieces!!! The only thing left that looks ok is the shaft....
Question, is it worth re building and changing all the uni and couplings or just buy a complete brand new kit???

Go new complete. Huge thread on here about it.

Diagnosing and changing unis is easy.
However the Double Cardan Joint centre bearing is critical as is the wear in the yoke journals where the uni caps press in.

This where a few owners have come unstuck thinking that new unis will set it right.

Be very vigilant inspecting for damage at the TC housing.

    Cheers

I think with a lot of the failures, the centre bearing in the double cardin joint fails and it takes out the 2 unis.

I'd also bin it and buy a completely new shaft.

I think you and Strangy are on the money when i bought my Disco someone had replace 1 of the unis in the Cardan Joint. The center ball either was damaged then or missing parts because when i removed the uni the ball joint has no needle rollers it was only a matter of time before i would be in the same position your in now. I was lucky i had read up on this forum before i purchased a vehicle i noticed a vibration @ 60kms on the test drive so i knew it was the first thing to fix.

I rebuilt the shaft with 3 x new unis & a Center Ball joint and also had i balanced. All seems good now but its not the easiest shaft to rebuild.

I would go a NEW shaft due to it being in bits.

Juddy in the Verandah section is offering New Shafts not sure of the details but worth getting a price.

Also there is a link in the Good Oil Section to a Thread with about 1 million post about it.
