Pipe on the top of the front axel?

Whats the black pipe for going into the top of the axel?

I noticed a spot of oil on the garage floor the other day after quite a long drive on a bumpy road. And overnight a strong oily smell. My landy never leaks!

I crawled under to see some diff oil had run from a plug on top and dripped on the floor. Very smelly oil!. There was a black pipe which had appeared to pop out the hole hence the drips. I pushed it back in and all good.

Yes not a bad idea. Clearly some travel on that road popped it out. Plus the fluids are due for a change.

Im pleased LR fitted them standard!

Never smelt it before, there was only about 3 drops!. I checked what it was by scooping it up on my finger tip! Lord knows what they put in that stuff but it stinks!.

It's also not my garage! It's a holiday home we're staying at this week!

Extreme Pressure lubricant additive - stuff that sticks to the gear teeth and prevents metal to metal contact even when the pressure is so high that the oil is squeezed out.

    Certainly explains the distinct aroma!

Best I clean the residual off the axel tube now that the pipe is back in!.
