Is the CDL engaged light on?

i would first do some tests as mentioned first before snipping.
ignition off, cdl unlocked, ignition on, cdl locked, cdl light on, cdl unlocked, cdl light off.
now engage cdl with ignition off, when you start the car the abs/tc lights will be on, think thats how i remember it.

once you snip the wire does not matter what the cdl is doing the abs/tc will not come on, unless you get the 3 amigos.

Before I cut the wire: Is there any reason why the TC and ABS lights are on and staying on?

Everything I read and been advised on; no-one has mentioned that these lights would come on and stay on.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers.
The "debate" between Strangy and myself has essentially been about the best way to address this light issue.

The ABS lights come on to indicate that ETC is disabled and abs is operating with reduced performance due to the cdl being locked.

The wire cut prevents the ecu detecting the locked cdl, so it behaves as if the cdl is unlocked rather than going into the reduced performance mode.

As Yorkie said a quick test first.

If the adjustment is out, Cutting the wire will remove the warning lights except the CDL locked light. Adjustment has to be right.

1/ With ignition off ensure CDL unlocked. Then, Ignition on/ engine running - lights should be off.
*If you start the car with CDL engaged you will get the warning lights.

2/ With ignition on/ engine runing - engage CDL. You should have the CDL/ locked light only. With engine still running, disengage CDL- light should go off.
*NB you may have to move fwd or back a little to fully disengage.

If the cable adjustments are correct then 1 & 2 will be the case. If not adjust the cable to ensure the CDL is correctly engaging/disengaging and correct activation of the switch.

Now, if you cut the wire you will now be able to sart the car with the CDL engaged. i.e after stalling or stopping in sand etc, without the warning lights coming on (other than the CDL locked symbol). as in scenario 2.

    cheers

It's important to remember the Diff Lock light/switch reflects the state of the CDL internals not the lever position. The dash light comes on when the CDL internals are locked, and extinguishes when the CDL internals unlock. Especially for the first few times you use the cdl the internals can be a bit slow to engage/disengage as they haven't been used for 10+ years.

I'd visually check that the arm on the top of the TC is in the correct unlocked position when you have the in-car lever in the unlocked position and vice versa. Adjust the cable so you get that result and you should be fine.

Finished a few hours ago and it all works brilliantly.

Many, many thanks to everyone here for the advice. And may I say, the correct advice.

Wire cut and worked as you all said.

    Cheers.

    Best sight ever

    Hi all,

    Best sight ever.

Any reason why one wouldn't just put into lock as soon as you're off the bitumen?

    Cheers.

no, so long as the wheels have chance to slip/spin on loose surface you wont get any windup in the t/c.
be mindful the light does not always come on/off after moving the lever but usually appears after driving a little further.

Some say to put it into lock as soon as you leave the bitumin. Apparently the centre diff isn't a big fan of working without wearing relatively quickly.
