If you drive it the same, then it should drop. But you get increased power, which is always tempting to use.
BTW: See if Tombie still does remaps, I have one of his and it transformed the car.
Hi all,
I have recently bought a TD5 auto and I'm thinking of installing a power chip, probably a TRS chip. Currently my fuel economy, mostly at 100 with the cruise set, averages at about 10.4 litres/ 100km. Not great but I'm wondering what difference a power chip will make to economy. Does anyone have any experience they're willing to share?
Much appreciated

Hi,
I have a chipped D2 TD5. I asked the prior owner and he says it came from South Australia Rover something. He says they are very well known, I think it is TRS like you are planning on getting.
The previous owner swears the car will do a four wheel burn-out. I believe him I'm just not prepared to try.
We drive very very conservatively and we have shocking economy. I cant work out exactly what it is because we have a doggy fuel gauge.
I try to work out my milage by filling up to the top and driving 300 kms or so and then filling up again. I average 45 litres for a 300km trip.
That's about 15ltrs/100..It has been worse than that also.
Aircon off. Gentle acceleration, 100kms on highway etc etc etc .
I love my car but I hate the consumption.
I am seriously considering put a stock ecu in.
Cheers
Many thanks. Sounds like my economy isn't that bad after all. Can't expect it to be as economical as a golf, but I was hoping for under 10 l/100km. My thoughts with the chips are that if they make more power, it has to come from somewhere, and unless you fiddle with cylinder heads, turbos, intercoolers etc, I guess it comes from burning more fuel. The extra power would be very nice, but I was hoping that a chip would not really affect cruising economy, only if you put your foot down.![]()
If you do get it chipped, make sure that you monitor your EGT's.
I could get mine above 900 deg. C quite easily. I have chosen to remove the chip( to save the turbo)and found that the auto in mine is much more responsive to the motor now that the chip has been removed.
Cheers,
Jason
Hello,
I brought my car 5 years ago, from day one i started tuning mine in almost every way I could and still do now. My fuel usage gets better all the time, from the re.maps to VNT's, TC, it only gets better, just done over 480ks the Half a tank, busy truck stops are the best here in Perth. The last few tanks have been dare I say BP Diesel some fill ups have not been so good. I drive to enjoy the extra HP the car has still.
There is a HUGE difference between getting your ECU re.mapped or fitting a Chip, I would stress that fooling the injector pulse with a chip is not the best way to get more power. Get a good re-map file.
My 2 cents
Ian
