Howdy!
I have done this modification quite a few times especially on collision damaged D2's
The radiator core support you currently have has flat back panel with a smallish hole to allow bulb access and of course it has the three pillar support arrangements for headlamp mounts and adjustment. The headlamps on the facelift arr' won't directly fit.
Reason--The bulbous nature of the new lamps requires the back panel of the core support to be cut out by a plasma cutter or die grinder.
Equally the top flange of the core support is formed differently so that it will accept the top prism plates (ABS plastic) which engage with the lamps to provide aim adjustment.
Yes again you can fab something up and weld in the modification to accpet the new headlamp adjusters.
Because I own a Pro shop I am expected by my customers to turn out an "as factory alteration" (or for my insurance clients) so I either replace the whole core support or at least the top flange panel all facelift D2 spec'd . Sounds worse than it is!
The next thing is that the lower head lamp eye brows won't fit so you will need facelift headlamp eyebrows. The clips holding the outer section of the eyebow to the fender panel can be easily twisted to accept the pin and screw arr.
The front bumper will have to go and the facelift arrangement installed. Its three piece affair and you paint the outer blades to match the vehicle paint job.
Other than that its fairly easy and gets easier the more times you do it!
