    Bonnet Release frozen!!!

My 2000 disco has decided to not let me check the water or oil anymore!!
Unfortunately being a Landrover this is flirting with danger.
I may have dropped the bonnet from a little too high!!!!!
I have tried popping the bonnet while tugging on the lever.
I have pulled the cable with vice grips.
Can't see any real access to the mechanism.
    Any non destructive ideas??
Dealer not an option as I'm 1200k's from any dealer.
    HELP!!!
Will try going down some corrugated roads tomorrow while the vice grips are holding the release cable. Might free it up.

What about wiggling the bonnet side to side and up and down while the cable is pulled back... When mine won't release i get someone to sit on with, pull the cable, hold it, then get off the bonnet while the cable is pulled and up it goes

There's a crummy little nylon spacer in the lock cable anchor, it breaks and prevents the lock operating. You need to cut the plastic pocket below the lock open, you can just see it through the grille with a good light. For a customer's D2 I sharpened a screwdriver and chiselled open the pocket, then manipulated the lever from below. I made a new spacer out of a bit of ally scrap. Took an hour or two without being able to see much.

    Got it!

    Thanks for the ideas.
I have chiseled off some of the plastic guard below (must be some sort of anti theft cover) the lock as suggested. The cable had actually come off the hook on the lock clevis. A little tap with a screw driver and i was back in the engine bay.
I have now drilled out rivets and put the cover in the bin. Luckily i was at home and nothing had gone wrong somewhere without the tools to break the plastic cover!!!!
If it ever happens again for any reason it is a simple screw driver and the bonnet is up!!!
I would recommend anybody to take this cover off. Makes life a lot easier if you ever need to access the engine bay without opening the car.
Thanks again for all the help, always appreciated.
