    Talking Back on the road

New PSPump ,new harmonic balance and new [almost] coolant pump. Lots of dollars later and bumps scapes and blood the D2 is back on the road. Cost was around 1k time was 4weeks[mainly waiting on parts from England] I had to walk away on numerous occasions just to save what sanity I have left. Even test drove other models but nothing really measured up---- now I have manufactured the extra tools required to work on the D2 I hope I never have to use them again!!!! Another word of warning :::: the coolant pump is quite brittle and will snap [break] if you put too much presure on the bolts when it hasn't fitted completely into the housing[I know these things] BUT the new O rings do fit into the old pump you just have to glue them in...! It also pays to have small and quite dextrous fingers[I don't]. So the old saying "MY LANDY HAS MADE ME A BETTER MECHANIC" maybe true BUT I think it has most definately turned my hair a little greyer and increased my ##%#^** vocabulary, have fun if it happens to you

    Hard work but rewarding.

I had the Valley Gasket Fail on mine and used stop leak until my father came over from the UK who's a retired mechanic of 50 years.

I took 3 days off work and we took the V8 down to the block and did the head gasket's as the parts were so cheap from the UK and we have the tools. Head's were fine as the engine only has 79k on it. However, 11 years old and we'd gone down that far anyway.

Hard work for me and the old man who's 67! Me, my dad and my 4 year old had a great time..

Very rewarding when it fired up and the next day we drove up to the Blue Mountains from Manly mid summer and ran like a dream and still does!

Yes rewarding knowing that you did it yourself, but the lingering doubt that --what's next????

Sometimes I wonder if the mechanically less minded are more relaxed driving their cars around in blissful ignorance......

I do think that too Greg but hoping for plain sailing now! fingers crossed.

At the time i also had an SLS issue. But went to onto coils so take away all the worry. Also did a throttle body bypass as that's another weak spot in the cooling system. I don't have sunroofs either.

My Dad did the brakes all around too. It's a very tidy car and had an easy life. It did the school run in Sydney for 11 years had road tyres on it when I bought it.

Only age is against it being a 2001. I don't drive it hard either. We just did a trip up Northern NSW and put 1000k on the clock, car never missed a beat!

An oil change in October and Diff and Transmission Oil's due, so hopefully just routine stuff now!

""I had the Valley Gasket Fail on mine""

Correction, it had a oil leak on the Valley Gasket with the last owner. It was replaced by a main dealer last November, I bought the car last December and when Dad tool the Manifold off the 3 bolts on the left hand side of the Valley Gasket had not been tightened up!!! Mechanic clearly went for lunch half way through the job and forgot!
