    Red face TD5 Sluggish Take-off

    Roverphiles,

I have recently had my TD5 rebuilt, all new internal parts, rebuilt turbo, ceramic coating to inlet, turbo and exhaust. The EGR and Cat were removed prior.

The engine runs OK, seems to cruise OK though the fuel economy is not as good as it was originally (10-10.5 kpl now 8.2kpl).

The major problem is the car is very sluggish from a standing start until the engine reaches 2000 RPM, at which point it takes off like a rocket! This aspect feels similar to a chipped engine which I drove recently, though I am certain my ECU is original.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Any ideas other that torch the truck gratefully accepted.

    Michael

    Recheck the cam/crankshaft timing.
Saw it was a solution in a post a little while ago with similar issues.
    Cheers, Kyle

    Smile SLUGGISH TD5

    Hello All,

Yes I had suspected the MAF sensor, lucky I have a spare! I also thought it may be the turbo waste gate actuator.

I will clean the MAF and see what happens.
I have had the car thoroughly checked on TestBook, so I wonder why this would not have been identified?

I am also pleased with the offer of a look NOR, have to organise that next week.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

    Justfishing,

Thanks I really appreciate your offer. I'll clean the MAF and if this doesn't work, I'll contact you again if that's OK?

    Best regards,

    Michael

    Hey Michael,
As you have had the motor rebuilt I'm sugest you recheck the cam shaft to crakshaft timing.
You would need to remove the rocker cover, lock the crank shaft and see if the cam locking pin drops in.
Remeber to rotate the motor in runing direction only to check.
It's adjusted by the 3 bolts holding the cam gear to the shaft, redo each bolt with locktite when done.

    Cheers, Kyle.
