Converting rear cargo area windows to gullwing style

I had a look at mine last night as I have the trim out at the moment.

It would appear that both windows in mine have aerials built into them with the little control box above the window.

I agree, if it is structural a suitable frame that can be sealed and rivetted in is the asnwer.

It looks like the only solution is to remove the window glass and aerial altogether, find a repalcement aerial arrangement and build a frame from aluminium with the choice of aluminium or tinted persplex window / door.

I will try to look at some different designs over the weekend and will post the options up next week.

Does anyone have some detailed photos of the Dolium ones for the defender?

I am interested to see how the frame was done.

How did you go with this CJT? I'm still interested and as I have 3 kids now will never be able to afford a new car and will have to make the D2 last the next 40 years :D

LOL, just had there very thought a few days ago and hadnt seen this thread.
I was thinking about doing this to my D1 or at least filling the windows in with sheet as you really cant see out of them.

Weren't there some 3 door panel vans built like this for Ireland owing to some of their licencing rules/costs?

And in Europe they made 4dr panel vans which got cheaper rego.

My first thought on making something would be to use perspex/acrylic. Quite cheap (compared to custom glass) and can be cut/drilled, etc easily at home.

Yeah but also easy to break into, i dont want it see thru so steel would be better.

Ah, you don't need it transparent, then yeah might as well go Al or steel.

Why do you think acrylic is easy to break into? Surely harder to bust than door locks and other windows?
