    Removing water pump bracket

Saw a recent post about replacing the o-ring between the water pump/PS pump bracket and the block.

Mine needs doing as well....which explains ongoing slow coolant loss.

How much do I need to remove to get the job done? I've done the water pump (x2) and PS pump (x1)...so I was thinking remove serpentine belt and AC compressor (just the 4 bolts that hold it to the bracket). Drain coolant and remove short pipe from water pump. Remove the pipe from airbox to turbo. Then I should be able to undo the bolts holding the bracket and get behind to replace the seal without removing the water pump or PS pump . Is this feasible or am I better going all the way and removing centif filter housing, water pump, PS pump etc so I can remove the bracket entirely?

Any comments from experience.....I've spent enough time under the car or in the bonnet or reading about how to fix it this year.....

You don't need to touch the water pump to do the bracket, apart from removing hoses. When I did the o-ring I replaced the water pump while the bracket was out. If you unbolt the PS pump you avoid having to disconnect the hoses, which is the better solution imo. I wouldn't try to do the o-ring without full removing the bracket from the vehicle - by the time you have the bracket pulled out enough to access the back you will have it off the studs anyway.

This pic shows the worn o-ring in situ:

    tension for bolts

Thanks Offtrack - good advice and should make the job a bit simpler.

Do you happen to know what the torque is for the bolts that hold the bracket on? I can't find it in RAVE.

    thanks

That's probably because it's really the "PAS pump bracket". I couldn't find it either, and have only discovered the correct part name recently.

Anyway 27 nm or 20 lb. ft.

Looking again, it's not clear that those figures are for the bracket to block, or pump to bracket. Treat with caution.

If it's not in RAVE so I'm not sure where else you'll find it.

    The workshop manual states

PAS pump pipe bracket bolt 22nm 16ft/lb
PAS pump to coolant pump bolts,TD5 25nm,18ft/lb
PAS pump bracket bolts 27nm 20ft/lbs

    Hope that helps

    tension

Thanks - as they are all within the same range I probably can't go to wrong with about 27 nm....

Seal turned up today so I'll be into it tomorrow morning

    Not good....

Pulled off the PAS + Water pump bracket, bit of a job!

Old o-ring between bracket and block was RS and leaking (had been for a while it seems).

However, I'm also assuming that the rim that holds the o-ring in place is meant to be complete, not with a chunk missing - see image?

Looks like I'm up for a new bracket.....
